'The term has even a bit of an art world inside joke: an art gallery in New York is
named “Untitled”; a performance art collective in Los Angeles wears the same badge; the
Whitney Museum in New York is attached to a restaurant called “untitled”; and, with the
movie, (Untitled), 13 a romantic comedy set in the New York Gallery world starring
Adam Goldberg the term has finally passed over into cliché.'

'And after making this strenuous case for the insignificance and unimportance of Untitled, I still need to contend with one factor that I have not mentioned: the importance of insignificance in modern art. Modern artists find insignificance very significant indeed: the centrality of absences, the promotion of negation, the irreducibility of emptiness, the incontrovertibility of silence. These in part define modernism. One cannot dismiss Untitled as marginalia because modern art itself had fled to the margins. '
